July 2011

Well, we just spent 4 days fishing at Big Mac. We tried everything; trolling north & south side, bottom bouncing up the river and just south of Van's off the big sand pile, and casting into the rock near Peterson's bay and spring creek. Nothing worked well. I did hook this five pounder casting into the rocks. However it was the only walleye caught doing that. We caught small mouth, perch, and channel cats. Weather was good. Good luck!

June 2011

Well, we where up for Memorial Weekend and the second weekend in June. You had to fight the weather just to get out. I hit the open water coming out of Van's Bay and was immediately splashed for the east. I continued out to Omaha Beach. It took an hour and half to get back.
Hearing great things now that the alewives are spawning. We are going back soon. I'll keep in touch.

July at Van's

Well we finally made it back to the lake. We have been reading about record inflows and rising lake levels. Friday, July 23, 2010 the lake level is at 91.3%. There are concerns about making sure the level is not to high come Oct. 31. Well, once out on the lake we were overwhelmed. The lake is so big! Where to fish? Fishing is pretty slow. We heard people are catching perch at Otter Creek. Catfish either at 40 feet or 2 feet and current. We tried Kelly and Hard Luck Bay's to no avail. It was so weird not having boats rushing by you all the time. There is room for everyone, once again. See you there.

June 11th

What a day fishing. We had planned to fish Big Mac Saturday but the weather report looked horrible. Cough, cough, sneeze, boss I don't feel so good. Not, just took Friday off and had a good day fishing. A little chop, trolled from Van's to past Sandy Point on the south side. Caught three bass and a cat. Bottom bounced across Sandy point and trolled to Lemoyne, nothing. Trolled west from Van's on the south side and picked up a couple of more bass. Van's stated a couple of people had caught limit of walleye on Thursday. The best new, the lake is over 75% full and there is water in Lakeview Bay. Van's says we'll be launching boat in the bat by July. On another nore the inflows of Pathfinder are 13,000 cfm and all the reservoir, are full. Hooray!!!

Big Mac May 15

Well the trip to Lake McConaughy mid May was uneventful. Cold a dreary was the way to describe the weekend. I saw a couple of boats on the lake but none from Van's. The lake is at 69% full. See the new pictures to get an idea of the current level. The photos are not the best due to a cloudy morning. Mushroom hunting was somewhat successful, we've done better. So looking forward to the Memorial Day weekend. More then.

Spring

Okay, its official “spring’ is here. Have you been fishing yet? Me neither, and we call ourselves fisherman. Oh well, I have a date set, April 29, 2010. We plan to go to the Lake McConaughy and open up the cabin. We usually do not fish on the first trip, but you never know. We are looking forward to seeing the lake; according to the CNPPID web site it is 66% full. We have not seen that level since 1999. Hey, does anyone have a picture showing the new levels? We have our tickets for Alaska. We leave DIA June 22, 2010 and return July 2, 2010. We will be spending most of our time just outside Soldotna, on the Kenai River. Fish on!

Two Years Smokeless

So we celebrated being smokeless for two years.
Actual my wife has gone two years straight without a cigarette.
Congratulations sweetheart you have accomplished something others will not even attempt.
Now I can expect to have my best fishing partner around for many more years.
